I moved here to accept a position as an Assistant State Attorney almost 20 years ago, hoping to gain some valuable courtroom experience. I found so much more than that. I found a place to call home. A place to raise my children. A community of kind, honest, hardworking people. Here in the Third Circuit, one’s word and one’s integrity still mean everything.

Having grown up here, I have always felt a certain sense of pride and admiration for this area. It has been a pleasure and privilege to work as an Assistant State Attorney in the Third Circuit for over a decade. Prosecuting in a smaller circuit provides a unique opportunity to work closely with law enforcement, victims of crimes, and other members of the criminal justice system and truly feel that you make a difference.

After passing the Bar in 2020, I was given the opportunity to work for the 3rd Circuit State Attorney’s office as an Assistant State Attorney. What makes this job great is the courtroom experience you get right out of the gate. From day one you handle all types of cases. The more experienced attorneys in the office are eager to help and mentor you as you learn to navigate through your caseload. If you are interested in trials this is the place to be. With monthly trial dockets you get trial experience early and often. Also, the biggest role you play in this job is that you represent the State of Florida, specifically the people in your community. Working with victims and doing my best to keep my community safe is a fulfilling role as an Assistant State Attorney in the Third Circuit.

My large Cuban family uprooted their life from Miami to Lake City in 2005, in their continuous pursuit of the American dream. I watched my parents open thriving businesses, while still enjoying the slower paced, family-oriented relaxed living that comes with a smaller community. I went through my elementary, middle, and high school years in Columbia county. The sense of community, from the Friday Night Lights at the local high school football games, city parades, and farmers markets, is something only seen in Hallmark movies. This circuit, more specifically Columbia county, has a charm that will inevitably make you vested in serving its citizens through the pursuit of justice. Making sure the community that raised me remains safe, for my family and others, is the most honorable calling I could put my legal education towards.
