Press Release – April 03, 2024

State Attorney John F. Durrett announces that Sidney Whitby Jr., having been found guilty by a jury of Burglary of a Dwelling and Grand Theft of a Dwelling in February by a jury in Dixie County, was sentenced on April 3, 2024, as a Prison Release Reoffender and a Habitual Felony Offender to 20 years in the Florida Department of Corrections.

The defendant in this case was proven to have entered a dwelling located in a local hunting camp in Dixie County and did steal an RTIC cooler, a television, and other items. After the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation, the defendant did admit to being at the scene of the crime but tried to deny actually taking the items. The defendant had recently been released from prison for Burglary and once again a Dixie County Jury after hearing all the evidence did find Sidney Whitby Jr. guilty as charged beyond and to the exclusion of all reasonable doubt.

The State of Florida was represented by Assistant State Attorney Jarrett Thomas and Assistant State Attorney Kendra Hollern.

The Honorable Jennifer Johnson conducted the sentencing.
