State Attorney John Durrett announces that Ray Dean Thompson was found guilty by a jury in Dixie County on August 14, 2023, of Trafficking in Methamphetamine. The charge was punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
After the return of the verdict, The Honorable Jennifer Johnson sentenced Ray Day Thompson to 25 years in prison. The Defendant was also ordered to pay a $50,000 fine.
On January 2, 2023, a vehicle being driven by Thompson was stopped by deputies with the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office. After a K-9 conducted a sniff of the vehicle, a large bag of methamphetamine was recovered and taken into evidence. Thompson was arrested on scene, and the bag of methamphetamine was sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for analysis. A chemist with FDLE issued a report confirming the substance to be methamphetamine, with a weight of 27 grams, which is a violation of Florida Statute 893.1935.
The case was investigated by the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Jarrett Thomas and Carey D. Carmichael, Jr.
