State Attorney John F. Durrett announces that Julius Thomas, having been found guilty by a jury of Trafficking in Methamphetamine and Trafficking of Dimethylpentylone in February by a jury in Dixie County, was sentenced on February 22, 2024 to 25 years in the Florida Department of Corrections.
The Defendant in this case was proven to have hidden more than 14 grams of methamphetamine and more than 10 grams of Dimethylpentylone in the door panel of the vehicle he was driving. Dixie County deputies noticed the window and lock panel were not closed all the way and what looked like a baggie was hanging out. The defendant was standing outside of the vehicle when the controlled substance was removed and just hung his head when he saw what the officers had found. When all the evidence was presented a Dixie County jury found Julius Thomas guilty as charged beyond and to the exclusion of all reasonable doubt.
The State of Florida was represented by Assistant State Attorney Jarrett Thomas and Assistant State Attorney Carey Carmichael.
The Honorable Mark Feagle conducted the sentencing.
