State Attorney John. F. Durrett announces that on February 26, 2025, following a jury trial, defendant Spencer Briggs was found guilty of Written Threat to Kill or Injure. After a presentenced investigation the Defendant was sentenced as a Prison Release Reoffender (PRR) and a Habitual Felony Offender (HFO) to 10 years in the Florida Department of Corrections.
Briggs, who had recently been released from prison, engaged in a prolonged campaign of harassment against his ex-girlfriend. This included parking conspicuously outside her home, sending threatening messages, and repeatedly showing up in an effort to instill fear. At one point, Briggs even sent a picture of himself parked outside her house, with a firearm visibly tucked into his waistband. He also made explicit threats to harm her and her family, escalating the danger and emotional distress he caused.
This case was investigated by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. The State was represented by Assistant State Attorney Eddylis Chico.
