State Attorney John Durrett announces that a jury found James Lamar Brewer guilty on March 29, 2023, of four counts of sexual battery in a familial/custodial authority, one count of lewd or lascivious molestation of a child, and one count of displaying obscenity to a minor. The Honorable David W. Fina sentenced Brewer to four life sentences on counts one through four, 15 years as to count five, and 5 years as to count six, all running concurrent but not coterminous with one another at a hearing held April 5, 2023. Prior to sentencing, the Court heard a statement from the minor Victim’s mother.
The jury determined Brewer sexually battered the Victim on multiple occasions over several months in 2021. The case involved not only the testimony of the named Victim, but also the testimony of two other Victims whom Brewer had committed sexual offenses against as well.
The case was investigated by Investigator Kim Lane of the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Melissa Blackwell.
