Press Release – September 06, 2024

State Attorney John F. Durrett announces that on September 6, 2024, Defendant Alexander Estrada was sentenced to 25 years in state prison followed by 5 years of sex offender probation after having been found guilty as charged on July 02, 2024 by a jury of his peers in Hamilton County for one count of Unlawful Sexual Activity With A Minor.

The Defendant was designated as a Sexual Offender under Florida law and was also found to be a Habitual Felony Offender, which doubled his potential sentence from 15 years state prison to up to 30 years state prison. The jury deliberated for approximately 20 minutes.

The Defendant, who was approximately 35 years old at the time of the offense and a recently released convict from prison, was found to have engaged in a sexual relationship with the 16 year-old victim over the course of several months. The facts showed that the Defendant began grooming the victim shortly after his release from prison and initiated the sexual relationship shortly after the victim’s 16th birthday.

The State of Florida was represented by Assistant State Attorney Travis Munden. The Honorable Melissa G. Olin presided over the case.
